HOMECUES FOR SALEBRW FOR SALEMAKING A CUEWOOD & MATERIALSCUSTOMER REMARKS
 PAGE 7
REAMING OF A FERRULE MAY SEEM A LIKE A TRIVIAL OPERATION, BUT IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT THE FERRULE BORE BE ABSOLUTELY STRAIGHT AND THAT THE END OF THE FERRULE BE LAPPED SQUARE TO THE BORE. THE REAMERS SHOWN IN THE PHOTO ARE SIZED IN HALF-THOUSANDTHS (.0005").
HERE WE ARE ROUGH CUTTING A MAPLE SHAFT.
THE DIAL INDICATOR TELLS HOW MUCH TO CUT OFF AT ONE TIME. THIS IS A SLOW, TEDIOUS PROCESS. THE TIME IT TAKES TO CUT A SHAFT FROM A 1" DOWEL TO A FINISHED PROFILE IS ABOUT 3-YEARS, 50-THOUSANDTHS AT A TIME. WHEN WE MOVE THE SHAFT TO THE CNC, WE ARE REMOVING AS LITTLE AS 1- THOUSANDTHS (.001"). ALL OF OUR MAPLE SHAFTS ARE GRADE AAA+ OR BETTER.
THIS IS A LAMINATED SHAFT FITTED WITH G9 FERRULE AND JOINT SLEEVE. IT HAS JUST BEEN POLISHED WITH 12,000 GRIT MICRO MESH.
ONCE THE SHAFT COMES OFF THE CNC WE START FINISHING IT WITH 14 GRADES OF SANDPAPER,
RANGING FROM 320 GRIT TO 12,000 GRIT. THE FINAL STEP IS A BURNISHING WITH BROWN PAPER BAG MATERIAL.
THE MOORI MEDIUM TIP HAS BEEN INSTALLED AND SKIVED DOWN TO SIZE. THE SHAFT WILL BE MATED TO THE BUTT AND SEVERAL RACKS OF BALLS SHOT WITH IT. THE FINAL SIZE/SHAPE (NICKEL, DIME OR QUARTER) DEPENDS ON THE CUSTOMERS PREFERENCE.
