HERE WE ARE "SWEEPING" THE GUN DRILL WITH A DIAL INDICATOR TO INSURE THE HOLE WILL BE EXACTLY DOWN THE CENTER OF THE WOOD WE ARE DRILLING.
GUN DRILL BEING USED TO BORE A HOLE EXACTLY DOWN THE CENTER OF THIS PIECE OF HOLLY.
THIS PHOTO SHOWS MACHINING OF A PURPLE HEART CORE. THE CORE HAS BEEN TURNED DOWN TO THIS SIZE (.800" DIAMETER) OVER 2 YEARS. IT STARTED OUT AS A 1.000" SQUARE.
THE SECTION BEING MACHINED IS FOR THE FOREARM. NOTE THE "STOP RING" ON THE LEFT OF THE CORE.
HERE THE BIRDSEYE FOREARM IS BEING "DRY FITTED" TO THE CORE. THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN ON NOV 1, 2007. THE CORE HOLE IN THE BE WAS DRILLED ON 10/25/2006. ALSO NOTE THE WEIGHT OF THE BE WHICH IS 4.06 OZ. THE FOREARM WILL BE GLUED TO THE CORE IN THE NEXT STEP OF THE PROCESS. THEN, AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS, WE WILL START THE TAPERING PROCESS. ONCE IT HAS TURNED "ROUND" WE WILL TURN DOWN THE HANDLE SECTION OF THE CORE TO .750". AT THAT TIME WE WILL ALSO INSTALL THE PIN.
